Our favourite brunch spot in Weligama: Flow Café

There is a little café in Weligama, tucked back off the road and half swallowed by plants, that we keep quietly sending people to. On a day off from training, when someone asks where to go for a slow breakfast and a good coffee, this is the one we name first. It is called Flow, and the name fits.

You walk in and the first thing you feel is green. Ferns and palms everywhere, rattan lamps hanging low, long mint coloured tables you end up sharing with whoever is next to you. People are barefoot, reading, tapping away on a laptop, leaning over a smoothie bowl with a friend. Old wooden bellyboards line the steps and double as seats. There is a little corner of clothes and bits to browse. It has that south coast thing where nobody is in a hurry and nobody is performing, you just slot in and stay longer than you meant to.

The food is the kind we love: fresh, plant forward, properly made. Cold juices and smoothies in every colour, pressed to order.

Smoothie bowls and fruit bowls served in coconut shells, piled with granola, sesame and whatever is ripe that week. Pancakes and crepes, bagels, big leafy salads and bowls that actually fill you up, and noodle bowls when you want something warm. It is vegan, vegetarian and gluten free friendly, so the whole table is covered without anyone having to ask twice.

And if you have been with us for a cacao ceremony and want to keep the thread going, order their spiced cacao, cinnamon and cardamom and all, and wrap your hands around the cup.

Who you will find there is part of the charm. Surfers just out of the water at Weligama bay, still salty, inhaling a second breakfast. Travellers settling in for the morning with a book. A few of our own trainees on their day off, comparing notes over matcha. It is social without being loud, the kind of place where you arrive alone and leave having talked to the table beside you.

What makes it ours, really, is how close it sits to the rhythm we live by. It is a short tuk-tuk ride up the coast from the farm in Midigama, open through the morning and into the afternoon, built around the same simple idea: slow down, eat well, be among good people. Come for breakfast, stay through brunch, roll out blinking into the sun, and the rest of the day somehow feels softer.

If you are here training with us, or dreaming about it, put Flow on your list for a morning off. Go say hi, order the cacao, tell them Senses sent you.
