Why train with us

Become a yoga teacher in Sri Lanka

There is a moment when the practice stops being something you do for yourself and becomes something you want to give to other people. This training is built for that moment. Whether you are ready to teach, deepening a long practice, or just feeling the pull, you leave able to hold a room with real skill and real confidence.

You train in a small group, capped at fourteen, with four senior teachers who each specialise, so the teaching stays close and personal. The 200hr covers both Vinyasa and Yin, and our Yoga Alliance curriculum is rated as exceeding the standard for a foundational training.

And it does not end on the last day. You graduate into lifetime mentorship, a free internship, and a global community of Senses teachers, so you always have somewhere to begin teaching and someone behind you.

Food & accommodation

Where you sleep and what you eat, your call

Breakfast and dinner on training days are included: vegan and vegetarian, farm to plate from the Midigama Fruit Farm. Lunch is not included, so you are free to eat what suits your body, your preferences and your budget.

Accommodation is not included either, and that is a deliberate choice. Most residential trainings keep you inside the same compound for three weeks: same four walls, same canteen, same faces. We do it differently, on purpose. Your tuition is the training; where you sleep is yours to choose. Stay steps from the shala, or a short tuk-tuk from the best surf on the south coast, in a simple guesthouse or a private villa, at whatever budget suits you. You get real rest between intense days, real time in Sri Lanka, and the freedom to live the trip your way.

  • Explore the coast on your days off, not a bubble
  • Pick your own comfort and budget, no marked up bundled room
  • Space to decompress and integrate between full training days
  • Trusted places nearby, all minutes from the shala

Prefer to stay on site? Senses sits on the Midigama Fruit Farm, which offers female-only 6-bed dorms, mixed 6-bed dorms and private rooms from €10 a night. The farm is an independent organisation, so to check availability and book, message them directly on WhatsApp at +94 70 600 2141.

After you graduate

More than a training. We care about your future.

We are offering you something we wish we had ourselves.

Have you asked yourself what happens after you graduate from a teacher training course? In many cases, when a course is over, students have to start looking for a place to teach, often wondering how to do it and where. It can be a daunting and confusing time.

Senses is one of Sri Lanka’s most established yoga schools and spiritual centres, offering more than 40 classes, workshops, ceremonies and activities a week. Becoming a teacher at Senses means you have a studio, teachers, friends and a community that supports you after your training.

After graduating, you will have access to an exclusive mentorship programme, participating in classes to support and assist the teachers until you are ready to be on your own. You will be part of our teacher community, spread all over the world, supportive and encouraging, with ongoing mentorship for life.

You will also have a discounted price for our other trainings, like sound healing or breathwork, to develop your skills further and grow your portfolio of offerings.

Why here

Why do a yoga teacher training in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has it all. With 1,340km of gorgeous coastline, crystal clear water and fine sandy beaches, lush tropical forests, mountain ranges, exotic wildlife and a rich food culture, there are very few places in the world that can beat the beauty of this country.

We are located in one of the most exclusive locations on the south coast: the Midigama Fruit Farm. A natural oasis, home to over 40 varieties of fruit tree and surrounded by nothing but nature.

There are no main roads or railway next to us, which makes our place incredibly quiet, without traffic noise or pollution. Imagine overlooking lush tropical greenery, walking barefoot on fresh grass, hearing nothing but the birds, preparing for a blissful morning meditation and an invigorating yoga practice to start the day. It is heaven.

Yet we are only 2km from the best beach of the south. A quick, fun tuk-tuk ride takes you to the bustling areas of Midigama, Weligama and Ahangama, where you will find plenty of beaches, bars, restaurants and cafes to spend your time off, or to give surfing a try.

Freya

Vinyasa & Anatomy

Freya is a yoga teacher, nutritionist, masseuse and traveller from the UK who has practised yoga for over 10 years. Her passion for yoga, surfing and travel has taken her to over 7 countries to guide yoga practices and earned her E-RYT500 status through training in India and Thailand. Jonny, Vinyasa & Asana teacher at Senses

Jonny

Vinyasa & Asana

Jonny has been a dedicated yoga teacher for 10 years, sharing his experience at retreats, festivals and trainings around the world. After healing his own body with yoga and experiencing its transformative effects on every aspect of his life, he knew he had to share these gifts with as many people as he could. He uses his extensive understanding of the body to support his students, but believes curiosity, exploration and personal discovery matter more than doing a posture perfectly. Beyond the physical, he excels at cultivating safe spaces for people to feel and express themselves. On this training he is the second lead teacher for Vinyasa, anatomy, advanced asana and philosophy.

Marilena, Yin & Philosophy teacher at Senses

Marilena

Yin & Philosophy

With over 800 hours of advanced yoga teacher training, Marilena is a Synergy Vinyasa and Yin teacher, Ayurveda health coach and yoga philosophy educator who has taught internationally. Her path into yoga was shaped by a childhood rooted in ballet, which still influences the creativity, fluidity and expression she brings to every class. Her Vinyasa blends dynamic movement with Qi Gong and physiotherapy; alongside it she is deeply passionate about Yin and Restorative Yoga, believing that in a world that asks us to do more, stillness is often the practice we need most. Drawing on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the non-dual traditions of Tantra, she makes yoga philosophy practical for modern life. Originally from Germany, she has lived in Sri Lanka for the past four years with her husband and young daughter.

@ayurlena
Gianluca, Yin, pranayama and meditation teacher at Senses

Gianluca

Yin & Program Director

The way Gianluca found yoga is one of those stories that shows how yoga can change your life. While developing a passion for photography in the United States, where he was offered the chance to photograph professional yoga teachers, he grew curious about the practice and eventually became a Vinyasa and Yin yoga teacher in Bali in 2018. He is the co-founder of Senses, passionate about breathwork and DJ-ing, and runs the Senses Breathwork Teacher Training and ecstatic dances. On this training he covers Yin, pranayama and meditation, and is your go-to person from onboarding through everything you need on site.

One free scholarship, every cohort

Train alongside someone whose life will change because you came

Every Senses 200hr teacher training includes one full scholarship for a Sri Lankan student. Same shala, same hours, same Yoga Alliance certificate at the end, fully gifted, no fee, no catch.

This is the duty of being a yoga school on Sri Lankan soil, and one we are honoured to fulfil. Giving back to the community is part of being an ethical school.

When you join a Senses cohort, you are not just training to teach. You are part of a group that, by its very existence, is opening a door for someone who could hardly otherwise walk through it.

The teachers our scholarships have trained now hold their own classes across Sri Lanka. The ripple continues long after your three weeks here are done.

Some places don't just host you, they hold you. Senses Sri Lanka did exactly that from the very first moment. As a Sri Lankan, stepping into this space felt like coming home in the most unexpected way. The fact that they offer discounts and donation-based options for locals means this kind of healing is genuinely accessible to us too, not just for visitors passing through.

I attended lots of classes and ecstatic dance at Senses while I stayed in Sri Lanka. It's a beautiful venue in the middle of nature, and the instructors and facilitation are wonderful. I am also a facilitator and yoga teacher, so I am particular about teachers and spaces, but was really impressed with what is offered at Senses. And the owners are lovely and very welcoming! Highly recommend.

A truly intentional sanctuary tucked away in the jungle. The shala at Senses is one of the most tranquil spaces I've experienced, perfect for deepening your wellness practice. It's rare to find a spot that balances professional wellness offerings with such raw, natural serenity. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a genuine reset.
