Ecstatic dance in Sri Lanka

We open in circle. We close in circle. And in between we dance like it matters, because here, it does.

We dance again in October!

We announce our first dance a few weeks ahead. Put your name on the list and you will get the date before it goes public.

What happens

An evening, spend in community, dancing like no one's watching

Times shift a little by season and by host, but the shape never changes.

  1. 16:30

    Arrival

Gates open, register, shoes off, water bottle filled. Come early enough to land, make new friends, enjoy the farm that hosts us.

  2. 17:30

    Opening circle

We sit together, align through our agreements, and weave connection through games that prepare us to move as one.

  3. 18:00-19:30

    The dance

A journey built by the DJ: slow and grounded, rising through the middle, softening again at the end. Making us move as a collective.

  4. 19:30-20:00

    Closing circle

We gather to land, to integrate what moved through us. We close with sharing our voices, through prayer, songs, deep breaths, sound or sacred silence. We leave the space as we found it, honoring the collective that held us.

Sound you feel in your bones

Held in the open air of the Midigama Fruit Farm, powered by a sound system we chose for the low end you feel through your bones rather than only hear.

Sri Lankan and international DJs, musicians and space holders, each chosen for one thing: the ability to take a floor on a journey, from the first careful step to full, uninhibited movement. Line-ups are named with every event.

A family of locals, travelers and seekers who return again and again, not just for the music, but for each other.

Before you come

The practical things

Getting here

Senses is located inside the Midigama Fruit Farm, Ahangama. Five minutes by tuk-tuk from Midigama beach, ten from Weligama. Tuk-tuks wait outside after the closing circle.

How long

Around three and a half hours including both circles. We invite you to come early to start in circle, and to end the dance in circle together.

What to wear

Whatever lets you move and sweat. Bare feet on the floor. Bring a layer for the closing circle, when the sweat cools.

Weather

The dance floor is in open air and partly covered. Rain does not cancel a dance; it usually improves the vibes.

Accessibility

The terrain isn't fully accessible by design. But we're committed to meeting you where you are. Let us know in advance what you need, and we'll do everything we can to host you.

What to bring

A water bottle, there is drinking water on site. And something to cover yourself for the closing circle.

The agreements

Four agreements, strictly held

They are the whole reason our dances feel the way they do.

No phones on the floor

Phones stay in your bag, so nobody has to wonder whether they are being filmed.

No alcohol, no substances

We gather sober, with clear bodies, and open hearts. This allows us to meet ourselves and each other authentically, creating the safety that holds us all.

Consent on the floor

Dancing together is invited and encouraged. A Namaste gesture on the heart means “thank you, but not right now” and is always respected, without explanation.

Photography

No photos on the dancefloor. At some events a photographer is present. You are told beforehand and can opt out. All photos are shared with everyone who danced.

Questions

Before your first dance

Do I need to know how to dance?

No. No steps, no choreography, no performance. You are welcome to move your body in any way you like. Leave judgements at the door.

Can I come alone?

Most people do. The opening and closing circles mean you arrive and leave as part of a group, not as a stranger in a crowd.

Is there alcohol?

No. Our dances are strictly sober. No alcohol, no other substances.

When are the next dates?

We start our weekly dances again in October. New dates go out a few weeks beforehand, join the date list to get them first.

Are Sri Lankan nationals welcome?

Always, and on a voluntary donation basis. There is no need to book online; just come.

Ready

Come once and you will understand what we mean

One family, one tribe. No borders, no religions, no identities, no judgment.
