Breathwork retreat in Sri Lanka: Husma
We teach a lot of breathwork at Senses.
Daily sessions, facilitator trainings , the Friday nights where people end up on the floor laughing or crying or both. But a full eight-day residential intensive is its own animal, and we do not run those. So when someone messages us wanting a real breathwork retreat in Sri Lanka, the kind where you go properly deep, clear out what you have been carrying for years and learn the tools to keep working with it at home, we send them up the coast to Green Peace Inn in Weligama.
We send people there because we trust the people running it. The retreat is held by Alex and Martina through their project Husma Retreats, and they have been doing this since 2017, more than sixty-five retreats in. Alex came to breathwork after fourteen years of meditation and trained with Alchemy of Breath, then kept going with BioDynamic Breathwork, Wim Hof and Dan Brule. Martina is a 400-hour Hatha and Yin teacher who fell into conscious connected breathing in 2017 and never really came back. They teach alongside a small team of yoga teachers. You feel the difference in how they hold a room.
Here is roughly what a day looks like. Morning yoga on the rooftop as it warms up. A long group breathwork session, around an hour and a half of conscious connected breathing, with real theory afterwards so you understand what just happened in your body instead of only feeling it. Then a plant-based brunch, slow hours for journaling or a massage or the beach, a fruit platter in the afternoon, sunset yin yoga back up on the rooftop, dinner, and a guided meditation to close the day. The food is all vegan and genuinely good, the rooms have private bathrooms, and the package includes an Ayurvedic massage and a Shirodhara treatment.
Who is it for. People who feel the call for a change and want a supported space to face the things they have been avoiding. Complete beginners are welcome and so are people who have been practising for years, because they run different levels and intensities throughout. If you have been white-knuckling through a stressful life and you know something needs to shift, this is a good place to do that work with people who know how to hold it.
They run the retreat through the season, between November and March, in week-long blocks. Rooms start at around €1,455 per person for couples, with private and sea-view options costing more. There is also a quiet line on their page that says if you genuinely cannot afford it and the retreat would help you, reach out and they will find a solution. We rate that.
If any of this lands, go and read their full schedule and dates, and have a chat with them. Tell them Senses sent you.
